Little is known about Bob Davis, other than he is teaching art for the summer at the Green River Preserve, the camp for smarties here in Henderson County. Also known: He spends the winters in Grenada with his wife who is going to vet school there and his six year old daughter. You will be hearing and seeing more of Bob as the summer progresses.

Grilled (gruyere) cheese sandwich, mussels in wine sauce, the bar tapas change frequently, but one thing that won’t be changing anymore is the price: $2 all the time. Same for the high gravity beer – $2 all the time. So come on in out of the heat, enjoy the food and the company.

I’m not a beer drinker, so the wonderfulness of the beer on tap at Flight eluded me until my daughter, Alana, came home from Argentina to bartend while sending out resumes. She was astonished at the incredible beer we have on tap and for only $2 on Monday and Tuesday night. (Along with $2 tapas!)

Celebrate the day of the Norse goddess Frigga. According to wikipedia (so it must be true, right?) Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility. When Norse and Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch.

And then, they dreamed up Cupid to take her place?

In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve signs of the zodiac, twelve hours of the clock, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, twelve gods of Olympus, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last Supper or a Norse myth, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners. Light Jazz Christmas by John Darnall. And Yo-Yo Ma & Friends, Sounds of Joy and Peace. Yo-yo is not jazz, but is so delicious. I hope Rob will let me sneak it in.

Any suggestions for jazz with no vocals? Rob says the music should be like wallpaper and not compete for your group’s ears.

Martini Cocktail Contest Winner!

Flight Wood Grill’s August email offered a prize for the best cocktail/martini recipes and the winner is….. Rick Prudhomme. Rick is the Marketing Director at Pardee. Flight will feature his martinis in September, but in the meantime, if you’d like to give it a go, here are the recipes:

The Bleus

2 1/2 oz vodka or gin (always dry)
Chopin or Sapphire

Build in mixing glass, shake and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with a rosemary spear of Spanish Queen olives stuffed with Maytag bleu cheese.

Saucy Minx

1 1/2 oz Absolut Raspberry
1/2 oz Marie Brizard Creme de Cassis
1 1/2 oz fresh sour
3 fresh raspberries
float of Red Bull

In an ice filled mixing glass add above ingredients and shake vigorously. Strain into a raspberry sugar rimmed martini glass.

Check out the post, Wine and the Spillover Effect. Apparently, we’ve all been trained from childhood that brands are better. But, in fact, we all like “Two Buck Chuck” if it’s packaged nicely and comes from a region somewhat known for vineyards and wine making. Interesting reading.
