Downtown Hendersonville is lighting the Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Pam’s Flower Market is having their Christmas open house that weekend.

Flight is waiting until at least December 1st.

Opening Night reception for “A Few Good Men”

The play was intense and close-up and intimate in the courthouse. You could see the spit ejecting from the actors mouths as they barked in time-honored Marine Corps style. We knew some of the actors, but found it hard to recognize them, so in character were they.

“A Few Good Men,” a production of Flat Rock Playhouse, will run from October 6 thru 31st at the historic courthouse on Main Street in downtown Hendersonville. The venue is small so tickets tend to sell out quickly. Buy your tickets asap at flatrockplayhouse.org or win them! Keep reading.

The show is general admission seating, but if you make reservations to have dinner at Flight pre-show you’ll receive reserved seating at the show so you’ll have time to enjoy your dinner. (Doors open at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm.) Flight diners will also have expedited dining service. Come to Flight apres-theatre, show your ticket stub and receive a free item from the Playgoer’s menu. And, meet the actors!

Due to crazy circumstances, Flight has only a few tickets to offer gratis to our loyal customers. 12 Angry Men

Flight is proud to play a part (all puns intended) in bringing the Flat Rock Playhouse production of 12 Angry Men to the historic Henderson County Courthouse on Main Street. The recently renovated courthouse is the perfect setting for this play based on the 1954 telefilm starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb.

On “lawyers and judges night” it was obvious that many of the lawyers had not visited the courthouse since the renovation. I overheard one astonished lawyer exclaim over the new dark out window shades that replaced the unadorned plywood. Another mentioned the fine new upholstery on the chairs. All agreed the courthouse never looked this great when it was in use.

But the superb acting was the main conversation that night. Each night after the play, some of the cast will head to Flight to discuss their role with patrons.

After having three daughters who eat, shall we say, very carefully, it’s fun to take hungry boys to dinner. The conversation was appropriately wide- ranging, from working out to where to spend the 4th of July — “the most fun holiday of the year.”

It’s also fun seeing boys I’ve known since they were 6 or so grow into young men who are interesting, witty, ambitious and kind.

The Governor Dines at Flight

The Governor, Ms Beverly Eaves Perdue and her husband, Bob Perdue, came to the Western Governor’s Residence for a mountain weekend over Memorial Day.
The evening began at Cam and Sally Boyd’s house with cocktails on the terrace overlooking the most magnificent mountain vista in Hendersonville. We then caravaned to Flight for an outrageous dinner. Bev had halibut with pineapple and bacon. We drank Merry Edwards Pinot Noir and Shug Pinot, of course. I have no idea what the white wine was because…why drink white??

Then, we were treated to a tech rehearsal of “For The Glory” at the Flat Rock Playhouse. We’ll need to go back and see the full version, but we all cried anyway. Kudos to Vincent and the great voices!

We were too tired to take a pantoon out on Lake Summit and see the beautiful full moon, but it was a stellar evening nonetheless.

Artists Reception Last Night at Flight

for Bob Davis (on the walls at Flight) and Marilyn Bailey, local jeweler with national reputation. Rob outdid himself with savory platters of tomato salad, scallops, lamb chops — it just kept coming. Nan chose some red and white party wine to go with it all. Many still stayed for dinner!

April is here! Mike Phillips predicts one more snowfall, but still it is spring. The dafs are blooming, so are the cherry trees. If there is one more snow, we can just laugh at it.
