Flight Wood Grill and Wine Bar lives in a converted bank building built by Erle Stillwell, a well-regarded Hendersonville architect, in March 1922. The First Bank and Trust Company occupied the first two floors until November 20, 1930 when the great depression forced it as well as two other local banks to close. Within two weeks, however, The State Trust Company opened. (from Buildings as History, The Architecture of Erle Stillwell, author William Mitchell) In 1958 it merged with the Northwestern Bank which merged with First Union which merged with Wachovia Bank in 2001.
